Grouped congenital hypertophy of the retinal pigment epithelium
Grouped congenital hypertrophy of
the retinal pigment epithelium (CHRPE) lesions. Several CHRPE
lesions of varying size may be arranged in a cluster and are called
“bear tracks.” Although these lesions are typically hyperpigmented,
they may also appear as clusters of hypopigmented CHRPE lesions, as
seen in this fundus photograph, and have been called “polar bear
tracks.” Unilateral grouped lesions are also generally not
associated with any ocular or systemic abnormalities.
