Fig 2
Claudin 6, 7, and 9 expressions in normal gastric tissue (left panels) and in gastric adenocarcinoma (right panels). The samples were stained with specific antibodies and a biotin-avidin system was employed; DAB was used to detect claudin reactivity. Arrows point to areas of specific staining. A light cytoplasmic staining for claudin-7 can be observed, and there is some aberrant staining of inflammatory cells. Images are ×40. Claudin-9 expression in gastric adenocarcinoma shows gastric glands with an almost normal pattern; the cells nuclei is located in the base of the cell and claudin-9 staining is observed in the apical area of the majority of the cells and in the cytoplasm of some scattered cells (C; ×40)
Claudin-7 was expressed mainly in the cytosol of diffuse-type adenocarcinomas and in some histologically normal gastric cells found in the biopsy (Fig. 2). .
Claudin-9 was strongly overexpressed in prenoplasic tissue (Fig. 2) and in both gastric adenocarcinoma types; the expression was confined predominantly to the apical membrane of the gland cells.
